The Final Edition: A Journey of 5 Years and 282 Newsletters
Yes, you read it right. This is it, the final issue of Pieter’s Post
After 5 years, 282 editions, and over 18,000 reads this is the last Pieter’s Post. I’ve written it from the comfort of my own bed, in the backseat of a Tokyo taxi, a deckchair in the Californian desert, and in many cozy coffee places. Through the years it’s been the only constant in my week.
In the beginning, my readers were mostly friends and family. But slowly the readership started to grow and people I didn’t know in real life discovered it.
It was just a hobby, something fun I did each Sunday to force me to do some creative work each week. But I found that people actually read it when they would bring all kinds of things up which I mentioned in the newsletter in real conversations at parties and hangouts.
The beauty of publishing online is its asymmetry. You can write something in 10 hours. Afterwards, 10 people can read but also 10 million. Your writing can stick around for years. I initially wanted to create something like the blogs of Nat, Julian.
However, there comes a time when you have to see if it still makes sense. My decline in interest and commitment led to reduced quality. In previous years I’d spent hours writing and researching but in the recent year I would slap something together in 10 minutes so I didn’t break my publishing streak.
The newsletter served its purpose. It was a fun conversation starter and combined with my website it gave me credibility when applying for tech jobs. But what got me to this stage isn’t what will take me to the next level.
So for now it has served its purpose and I will move on to other projects.
I want to thank you for reading. There are people who’ve been reading since the very first edition. Thank you for all the feedback, kind words, and for tagging along in my journey for the last 5 years.
If you got the urge for a trip down memory lane you can find the highlights of Pieter’s Post 2020 and 2019 here and the best articles I’ve found.
I am not disappearing from the internet so feel free to stay in touch on LinkedIn, Instagram, or by email.
Thank you, and for now, this is goodbye.
